A Delaware Basin operator was seeking to increase bit and BHA life in their intermediate sections to be able to drill longer and faster. After performing a detailed pre run analysis, the MT6 Dual Acting Mechanical Thruster was introduced on the 3rd well of the pad.
10 5/8" Intermediate Section
BHA: PDC - Mud Motor - MWD - Mechanical Thruster
Shock tool utilized in the initial two wells of the pad
RESULTS
Consistent WOB, differential pressure, and torque
Average ROP of 137 ft/hr (35% increase compared to the two offset wells)
Increased 1st bit footage by 10%
What is the mechanical thruster?
The Mechanical Thruster is a spring loaded downhole tool that balances mechanic and hydraulic forces to keep the bit engaged with formation at all times, especially during transition zones. It balances pump open forces and WOB, maximizing weight transfer and increasing ROP.
